How Long Does A Trademark Registration Last?
A federal trademark could last forever. The length of an initial trademark registration is 10 years. There are post registration maintenance documents that must be timely filed between the 5th and 6th years of registration, and there are renewal documents that must be filed between the 9th and 10th years of registration, and every 10 years thereafter. As long as a trademark owner timely files all of its maintenance and renewal documents and can show that the trademark still serves its purpose of distinguishing the goods from others in interstate commerce, then the trademark registration will continue indefinitely.
